Shannon’s new one-act show, An Addition of One, is based on the true story behind artist Jamie Wyeth’s controversial 1967 portrait of President John F. Kennedy.

Wyeth was just 20 years old when he turned down an official commission to paint a posthumous portrait of President Kennedy — instead he made the painting on his own terms. Unusual, intimate and intense, it was rejected by some in the Kennedy family and sparked a national outcry.

The portrait is now widely considered an iconic masterpiece and is part of the permanent collection at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

Based on historical records, personal conversations and other primary sources, the play tells an all too timely story about family, politics, art, agency and the weight of truth.

It debuted in a sold out performance at Pascal Hall in Rockport, ME, on 31 July, 2026, directed and performed by Shannon as a one-woman show.
